Description

This 5m HDMI lead uses active fibre optic technology (AOC) to carry the signal, which lets it run over much longer distances than a standard copper cable without the picture degrading. It supports video resolutions up to 8K Ultra High Definition at 60Hz, with a video bandwidth of up to 48Gb/s and full HDMI 2.1 support. It is HDCP 2.2 compliant, so it works with protected content from modern sources and displays.

The stand-out feature is the detachable plug on one end. Designed with installers in mind, the full-size head pulls off to reveal a micro HDMI plug with a reduced diameter, which means you only need to drill a 12mm hole to feed the cable through a wall or panel. When you reattach the head, push it firmly and fully back into place to keep the connection secure. The thin 4.8mm outer diameter fibre optic cable stays flexible over long runs, which makes routing through tight spaces easier.

The alloy headshells and gold plated connectors are built to hold up in fixed installations and give a clean, reliable contact. Because one end can be used as a micro HDMI plug, this lead is also handy for connecting smaller devices such as a Raspberry Pi, camcorders and tablets. Whether you are running a signal from a media source to a distant screen or wiring a room from scratch, this cable keeps the picture clean end to end.

Frequently Asked

What is an active fibre optic HDMI lead?

It carries the HDMI signal using fibre optic cable rather than copper. This allows a much greater transmission range without the signal degrading over distance, which is useful for longer runs where a standard cable would struggle.

Why does the plug detach?

Removing the full-size head reveals a micro HDMI plug with a reduced diameter. This means you only need to drill a 12mm hole to feed the cable through, which makes installation much tidier.

What resolution does it support?

It supports video up to 8K Ultra High Definition at 60Hz, with a video bandwidth of up to 48Gb/s. It is HDMI 2.1 and HDCP 2.2 compliant.

Can I use it with small devices?

Yes. Because one end becomes a micro HDMI plug when detached, it works with devices that have a micro HDMI socket, such as a Raspberry Pi, camcorders and tablets.

How thin is the cable?

The fibre optic cable has a 4.8mm outer diameter, which keeps it flexible and easy to route over longer distances.

Is the cable directional?

Active fibre optic leads usually have a source and display end, so connect it the correct way round. The detachable plug is on the end intended for feeding through a wall.
