This active fibre optic HDMI lead from AV:Link carries the HDMI signal over light rather than copper, so you get much greater transmission range than a standard cable without the signal degrading along the way. At 30m long, it suits fixed installations where a passive cable would struggle to hold a clean picture. It supports video resolutions up to 8K Ultra High Definition at 60Hz, with a video bandwidth of up to 48Gb/s and HDCP 2.2 compliance, so it keeps up with modern sources and displays.

The clever part for installers is the detachable plug on one end. Remove it and you reveal a Micro HDMI plug with a reduced diameter, which means you only need to drill a 12mm hole to route the lead through a wall or panel. Once the cable is in place, push the plug firmly and fully back on to keep the connection secure. That same Micro HDMI end is handy for connecting smaller devices such as a Raspberry Pi, camcorders and tablets. Note that in the US these are often called HDMI cables rather than leads, but they are the same thing.

The head shells are made from alloy with gold plated connectors, and the outer diameter of the fibre optic cable is a thin 4.8mm. That slim profile keeps the run flexible over long distances while holding good signal quality end to end. It is built to the HDMI 2.1 standard, so it handles high frame rate 4K and 8K content across a single lead.
