Description

The Auckland is a single pendant light with a flared dome shade in steel, finished in a mottled antique copper colour that recalls an old workshop lamp. The shade measures 26cm across, and the light has an overall height of 110cm, hanging on a black cord from a round ceiling rose in the same aged copper colour. Look up into the shade and you will see a pale inner face, which contrasts with the darker copper colour on the outer surface. It takes one E27 bulb at a maximum of 60W, and the bulb is not included. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

We would hang it over a kitchen island, a dining table or a breakfast bar, where a single shade of this size gives a focused pool of light without crowding the space. In a hallway or on a landing it works just as well, adding a warm, industrial touch beneath the ceiling. The aged copper colour sits comfortably with exposed brick, timber worktops, slate and dark painted walls, and it brings character to a modern home as readily as to a period one. Because it has no switch of its own, it is simply switched at the wall like any other ceiling light.

Steel is a strong, rigid metal, so the shade keeps its crisp flared shape.
