Description

A low armchair on a mango wood frame, 76.2cm high, 65.5cm wide and 70cm deep. The back is a square panel of cane, woven open in a hexagonal pattern and set into the wooden frame so the light comes through it. The arms are square in section and run from the back uprights straight forward to the front legs, and a single loose cushion in natural linen sits on a webbed base inside the frame. The wood is pale and unstained, with the grain showing right through it.

The seat sits at 36cm, which is low: the knees come up rather than down, and the chair is one to sit back in rather than to sit up at a table in. At 65.5cm wide it takes a corner of a room, a spot beside a window or the end of a bed without the bulk of an upholstered armchair. The cane back is open, so the chair does not block light or the view when it stands away from a wall. At 10.5kg it moves with one hand.

The frame is mango wood, the back is cane and the cushion is linen, all left in their own colours. Mango is grown for its fruit first and cut for timber only once the trees have stopped bearing fruit. The linen is a natural oatmeal rather than a bleached white, and the cover comes off the cushion.

Frequently Asked

How high is the seat?

36cm from the floor. The chair is 76.2cm high overall, 65.5cm wide and 70cm deep.

What is the back made from?

Cane, woven open in a hexagonal pattern and set into the mango wood frame.

Does the cushion cover come off?

Yes. It is removable and suitable for a machine wash on a delicate cycle at 30 degrees. Do not tumble dry it, and keep it out of direct sunlight, where the colour may fade.

How do I look after the wood?

Wash it in warm soapy water, then rinse and dry it immediately. Mango is a tropical wood and prefers humid air, so in a centrally heated room it can dry out and crack or warp. A natural oil such as olive oil or walnut oil rubbed in with a soft cloth will nourish it, though it may darken the tone, and because the oil does not soak in permanently it needs putting back on after washing.

How heavy is it?

10.5kg.
