Description

The Astra is a compact cone pendant light in matt white: a simple conical aluminium shade that narrows towards the top and opens wide at the base, hanging from a black textile cable. It measures 15.5cm across, and the shade itself is 17cm tall, so it is a small, neat pendant rather than a large centrepiece. Inside sits one E27 lamp holder for a single bulb. The lamp is not included, which leaves the choice of bulb to you: a warm one for a softer evening light, or a brighter one where you need to see what you are doing.

Because it is small, the Astra is at its best where you want light close to a surface: over a desk, beside a bed in place of a table lamp, above a reading chair, or hung in a row of several over a dining table. It also suits a hallway or landing, where a ceiling pendant needs to stay out of the way. The cable is 1.5m long. Its clean lines and plain matt finish suit a modern home, and white keeps it light in a small room. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The structure is aluminium in a matt white finish, and the cable is textile, which looks softer than a plain plastic flex. It runs on 220-240V mains and is switched on and off, and the ceiling canopy is 8cm across. As a mains fitting, it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 2 year guarantee. For styling, the white cone sits quietly against a white ceiling and stands out crisply in a room with darker walls; set against natural wood, linen or concrete, it keeps a pared-back scheme feeling calm and uncluttered.
