Description

The Astra is a small cone pendant in matt black, with a conical aluminium shade that tapers gently from a wide, open base to a narrower top. It is 17cm tall and 15.5cm across, so it hangs neatly without crowding a room. The shade is suspended on a 1.5m textile cable from an 8cm round ceiling canopy, and the open base sends the light downward. Inside there is one E27 lamp holder. The lamp is not included, so you can choose the bulb, its colour of light and its brightness to suit the room.

Because it is compact, this pendant works well hung low over a dining table, a desk or a bedside, where you want light on the surface beneath rather than across the whole room. Two or three in a row suit a longer dining table, and a single one brings a neat point of light to a hallway, landing or reading corner. Its clean, modern lines sit comfortably in a contemporary home and suit pared-back interiors just as well. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only.

The structure is aluminium, finished in matt black, and the cable is textile, a tidy detail where it hangs in view. It runs on 220-240V mains and works from an ordinary on-off switch, so it needs no dimmer. As a mains fitting, it is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 2 year guarantee. For styling, the matt black looks crisp against a white or pale ceiling and sits well with oak, walnut, concrete and warm brass. A warm white bulb gives a soft evening glow over the table.
