Description

The Astra is a modern wall light with a cone shade in matt white, carried on a slim L-shaped arm that rises from a round backplate. The conical shade is narrow at the top and widens towards the bottom, so the fitting has clean, simple lines and sits quietly on a plain painted wall. The structure is aluminium and the base is iron. It is 30cm tall and stands 18cm out from the wall, with a shade 15.5cm across. Inside are two G9 lamp holders. Lamps are not included, so you will need two G9 lamps before it goes into use.

It is rated IP20, so the Astra is for dry rooms only: a bedroom, living room, hallway, landing or study. At 18cm deep it suits a narrow passage or landing where a deeper fitting would be in the way, and a pair either side of a bed makes a neat alternative to bedside lamps, keeping the bedside tables clear. In a living room, two either side of a fireplace or a mirror give an even, balanced light at wall height. It is a switched, on-off fitting, so it works from an ordinary wall switch rather than a dimmer.

Both the aluminium structure and the iron base are finished in the same matt white, so arm, backplate and shade read as one simple piece. The fitting runs on 220-240V mains and, like any mains fitting, is for a qualified electrician to install. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, the white cone looks its best against a pale or warm wall colour, where it blends in by day and becomes a soft point of light in the evening; against a deeper paint colour it stands out as a crisp, graphic shape. Pair it with plain linen, light timber or painted furniture to keep the modern feel of the room.
