Description

The Aston Square is a 380mm cubic lantern pendant housing six E14 candle bulbs arranged on two tiers inside bevelled clear glass panels set in a polished chrome frame. The four glass sides sit flush within a grid of rectangular chrome sections, while the domed chrome canopy above connects to an adjustable chain supporting the full 15kg weight of the lantern.

Designed for hallways, stairwells, and double-height entrance halls with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 5m, the Aston provides both ambient and decorative light. The 900-2350mm adjustable drop allows the lantern to be positioned 600-900mm below the ceiling in standard-height hallways, or 1800-2200mm below in double-height spaces where it can hang centrally above a landing or at eye level from a first-floor balcony. The bevelled glass edges refract light from the six bulbs outwards into the room while the chrome frame reflects it back through the glass, creating layered illumination.

Each of the four glass panels is bevelled at the edges, which adds visual depth when the lantern is viewed from different angles and introduces prismatic effects under direct light. The polished chrome finish on the frame, canopy and chain provides a high-shine reflective surface that pairs well with both traditional and contemporary interiors depending on bulb choice. Six E14 bulbs (sold separately) allow for customisation of light temperature and brightness — warm-white LED filament candles suit period and classical settings, while clear-glass LED or halogen candles work in modern spaces. The lantern is dimmable when paired with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch.

What bulbs does the Aston take?

The lantern takes six E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulbs up to 20W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair it with 4-6W LED candle bulbs in either warm white (2700K) for traditional interiors or daylight white (4000K) for contemporary spaces.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

The minimum drop is 900mm, which means the lantern sits 900mm below the ceiling at its shortest adjustment. This works in hallways and entrance areas with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above. For standard 2.4m ceilings the lantern will hang quite close to head height, so it's better suited to spaces where you don't walk directly beneath it.

Can the drop be adjusted after installation?

Yes, but the adjustment happens during installation by shortening the chain. Once the chain is cut and the excess links removed, the drop is fixed unless you reinstall with additional chain or purchase replacement chain from Diyas or a lighting supplier.

How is the glass cleaned?

The bevelled glass panels can be wiped with a damp microfibre cloth and standard glass cleaner once the power is switched off and the bulbs have cooled. The lantern is relatively enclosed, so dust accumulation inside the glass chamber is slower than on open pendant lights.
