Description

A dinner plate turned from mango wood, 27cm across and 2cm deep. The well is shallow and the rim low, so the face is close to flat and the grain runs across it uninterrupted. Nothing is applied over the surface, and the tone shifts from pale cream to a darker honey within a single plate.

Twenty-seven centimetres carries a full plate of food without the rim doing any of the work, which is where a wooden plate parts company with a china one. At 0.37kg it hands round a table easily. It is food safe.

The wood is mango, taken from trees felled once they have stopped fruiting. Each plate is turned from its own piece, so the banding across one is never repeated on the next. The 20cm Artisan side plate runs alongside it.
