Arqus Feather Lampshade - Black, 41 x 23cm

The Arqus is a 41cm diameter black feather lampshade built on a clear vinyl drum frame, with hand-applied black feathers layered across the entire outer surface. Each feather overlaps the next to create a dense, textured exterior that diffuses light through the gaps between individual feathers rather than through a solid fabric. The frame is non-wired and designed to clip onto a pendant or table lamp fitting with an E27 or B22 bulb holder.

Designed for statement lighting in dining rooms, lounges, bedrooms and hospitality interiors, the Arqus sits on a pendant drop of 900-1200mm from ceiling to base, or on a 450-600mm tall table lamp base. The feather surface absorbs much of the direct bulb glare and casts a softer, fragmented light pattern through the feather gaps, creating shadow play on surrounding walls and ceilings. The 23cm height gives enough internal clearance for a standard A60 LED bulb without the feathers touching the glass.

The layered black feathers give the shade a substantial 750g weight despite the hollow drum construction, so the lampshade needs a fitting with a secure shade carrier ring rather than a push-fit clip alone. The feathers are dyed black and heat-treated to reduce shedding, though occasional loose barbs are normal with natural feather products. The clear vinyl frame inside remains visible only when the light is switched on — when off, the dense feather coverage hides the internal structure completely. The maximum 100W rating allows for bright incandescent or halogen bulbs, though most users pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED to avoid overheating the natural feathers.

What fitting does the shade attach to?

The Arqus is a non-wired shade that clips onto a pendant or table lamp fitting with a shade carrier ring. It suits E27 and B22 lamp holders with a standard UK shade carrier. The 750g weight requires a secure metal carrier rather than a lightweight clip-fit.

Do the feathers shed?

The feathers are heat-treated to minimise shedding, but occasional loose barbs are normal with natural feather products, particularly in the first weeks of use. Gentle handling during installation reduces shedding.

What bulb should I use?

The shade is rated up to 100W, but a 6-10W warm-white LED (2700K-3000K) is recommended to avoid overheating the natural feathers. Avoid halogen bulbs above 40W as the heat can damage the feather tips over time.

Can it be cleaned?

Feather lampshades are not washable. Dust can be removed with a soft brush or low-power vacuum with a brush attachment held 2-3cm away from the surface. Do not use water, sprays or chemical cleaners on the feathers.
