Designed for decorative lighting rather than high-output task lighting, the Arqus pairs well with low-wattage E27 or E14 bulbs (sold separately, 60W maximum) in bedrooms, dressing rooms, boutique retail and hospitality interiors where texture and colour depth matter more than brightness. The feather construction diffuses light evenly across the surface rather than projecting a focused beam, creating ambient fill light in a 2-3m radius.

Each shade is hand-assembled, so feather density and arrangement vary slightly between pieces. The aubergine dye penetrates the feather structure, so the colour holds under continuous use without significant fading over the first year. The wire frame includes a standard E27/E14 ring adapter that fits most UK and European pendant holders and table lamp harps. At 0.35kg the shade is light enough for plastic pendant holders but still requires a secure fixing.

The feathers themselves are natural poultry feathers processed and dyed for decorative use. Dust accumulates on the outer layer over time and can be removed with a soft brush or low-pressure compressed air — avoid wiping or water contact as this damages the feather structure. The shade is not suitable for high-humidity environments (bathrooms, outdoor covered areas) as moisture causes the feathers to mat and lose their layered appearance.

How is the feather shade cleaned?

Dust the outer feather layer with a soft brush or use low-pressure compressed air to dislodge particles. Do not wipe with a damp cloth or use liquid cleaners, as moisture damages the feather structure and causes matting.

Can it be used in a bathroom or outdoor covered area?

No. The natural feathers absorb moisture in high-humidity environments, which causes them to mat together and lose their layered texture. The shade is intended for dry indoor rooms only.

Does the colour fade over time?

The aubergine dye penetrates the feather structure rather than sitting as a surface coating, so colour retention is good under normal indoor lighting conditions. Prolonged direct sunlight or heat from bulbs above 60W may cause gradual fading over several years.
