Description

An ottoman 113cm long, 68cm deep and 43cm tall, upholstered over the whole of its top and sides in a cotton and jute weave and standing on four short turned legs of mango wood. The fabric is a kilim: narrow tan stripes run across a natural ground, with a band of chevrons worked in a denser weave along the top edges. The corners are rounded and the covering is continuous, with no seam or lid line anywhere on the top.

At 113 by 68cm the top is close to the size of a small coffee table, and with a tray stood on it that is how it is used in front of a sofa. At 43cm it sits a little below most sofa seats, so it also takes feet from the same sofa, or an extra person once the tray comes off. The top is cushioned rather than firm, so anything stood on it wants a flat base to sit level.

The cover is a cotton and jute blend, woven to traditional kilim patterns in natural tones. The legs are hand carved from mango wood and turned, and they are left pale against the ground of the weave. The Aranya range also runs to an occasional chair and to an upholstered storage bench.

Frequently Asked

How big is it?

113cm long, 68cm deep and 43cm tall.

Does the top open for storage?

No. The upholstery runs unbroken over the top and down the sides, and there is no lid.

Can it be sat on?

Yes, as an occasional seat, and at 43cm it also works as a footstool from a sofa.

What is it made from?

A cotton and jute cover on hand carved mango wood legs.

How heavy is it?

12.3kg.

How do I look after the fabric?

Go over it regularly with a vacuum or a soft brush to lift surface dust, but never with a rotating vacuum head, which will damage the fibres. Dust that works into the surface causes abrasion and shortens the life of the fabric. Spot clean small spills only: lift the liquid with an absorbent tissue, then blot the area with a sponge or a clean folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it by blowing warm air across the surface from a hair dryer to avoid water marks. Larger or more stubborn stains should go to a professional. Never stand it in direct sunlight, as natural dyes and yarns fade quickly.
