Description

A tub armchair 76cm high, 77cm wide and 78cm deep, upholstered all over in a handwoven cotton and jute kilim. The back curves round in one piece and comes forward into low arms that finish in a soft scroll at each front corner, and the weave runs unbroken from the seat up and over the back, so the chair is finished behind as well as in front. The seat is deep and lightly domed. The front legs are turned mango wood with a collar and a taper, and the back legs are plain and splayed in the same pale wood.

The seat sits 40cm off the floor and measures 53cm across by 60cm deep, which is deep enough to sit back into rather than perch on, and the curved back and arms hold that position. At 77cm wide it takes a corner of a bedroom, a reading spot by a window or the end of a living room without reading as a second sofa. It carries up to 100kg.

The frame is mango wood and the upholstery is a cotton and jute kilim, handwoven and then fitted over the frame by hand. The weave is a natural cream flecked with a soft ochre, and the slubs and irregularities of the yarn show across the surface. The Aranya range also holds an upholstered ottoman and a storage bench.
