Description

A round wall mirror, 80cm by 80cm, in antique bronze. A round form has no corners, so it reads as softer than a square of the same width and settles more easily into a space where straight lines already dominate. At 80cm it is about as wide as a standard interior door. A mirror is the one piece of decoration that gives something back: it doubles whatever light the room already has, and on the wall opposite a window it does more for a dark room than repainting it would.

Warm metals show fingerprints far less than a polished cool finish, because the tone is closer to the oils that leave them. What they do show, eventually, is a gentle darkening at the places most often handled. Iron is the traditional choice for a reason: it takes heat, weight and time without complaint. It will mark if it is left wet, so indoors or under cover is where it belongs.

It hangs on a keyhole. Two things make a keyhole fixing straightforward: mark the screw position from the plate rather than from a tape measure, and leave the screw head standing far enough proud that the plate drops fully over it.
