The Andreas is a long, slim pendant light: a black steel bar 117cm long and 7cm wide, hung on two wires from a matching rectangular ceiling canopy, with an overall height of 110cm. A white plastic diffuser softens the integrated LED, which is built into the bar, so there is never a bulb to buy or change. It holds two 19W LED lights, each giving 2,300lm. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, and never in a bathroom or out in the garden.

A linear pendant like this is made for a long surface. Hung over a dining table or a sideboard, it spreads light along its whole length rather than pooling it in one spot, so a rectangular table is lit end to end. Because it is a smart light, you can set it bright and cool for breakfast, turn it warm and low for a relaxed supper, and bring in colour whenever friends are visiting. The black finish reads as a clean, quiet line against pale walls and wood, and it sits as happily in a modern open plan space as in a traditional dining room.

The colour temperature adjusts from 2700K, a warm white, to 6500K, a daylight white, the light is dimmable, and the colour changing (RGB) setting adds a wide range of colours. You control it from an app; it also works with a remote control, which is sold separately. There is no switch on the fitting, as it is switched at the wall, and it runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains.
