Description

The Amri in antique black is a cast iron candlestick: a shallow dish 9cm across carrying a straight socket 5.5cm high, with a round handle looped off one side. The socket takes a dinner candle. The black is dry and slightly granular over the casting rather than glossy, so the surface holds almost no highlight and the shape reads as an outline.

That matt black shows most against a pale surface and least against dark stone. At 5.5cm it clears a sightline across a laid table and it occupies 9cm of surface. The handle takes two fingers, so it carries from room to room rather than staying where it is set down.

The casting is iron under an antique black finish. The surface is left as it comes off the mould, so the tone varies across the dish and from one candlestick to the next. Amri also runs in antique brass. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked

What candle does it hold?

A dinner candle, standing in the raised socket.

How dark is the black?

Near black, matt rather than glossy, with a slight grain to the casting. Against dark stone it reads as a silhouette.

Is there a brass version?

Yes. Amri runs in antique brass as well as antique black.

How do I look after it?

Wash it with a mild dish soap and warm water after each use so wax does not build up, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away from the finish.

Does it get hot in use?

Yes. Stand the candle securely, keep it out of reach of children, let it cool fully before handling it, and never leave a burning candle unattended.
