Description

Round coasters cut from a rust brown marble, 10cm across and polished to a low shine, each one crossed by the pale veining that runs through the stone. No two faces carry the same pattern: on one the vein runs as a single white seam, on another it breaks into finer lines through a darker red band. They stack into a metal caddy with a squared opening cut out of the front, so the top one slides out without lifting the rest.

At 10cm across a coaster takes the foot of a wine glass, a coupe or a tumbler with room around it. The caddy is 8cm tall and stands on short feet, small enough to leave out on a table or a bar top rather than put away in a drawer, with two coasters out and the rest still stacked. The whole set weighs 1.325kg.

The coasters are marble and the caddy is stainless steel under an aged antique finish, etched by hand so the surface holds a fine texture rather than a flat sheen. The marble is quarried in Rajasthan and every piece is cut and polished by hand there. Because the veining belongs to the stone rather than being applied to it, no two sets are alike. The Amaya range also holds a champagne bucket, an ice bucket, a wine cooler and a cocktail set.
