Alina GU10 Rectangular Pendant Light 90mm - White Paintable

This is a small gypsum shade, rectangular in section and 90mm across, hung from a slim suspension with polished chrome metalwork. The gypsum comes in a white paintable finish, so it can be left plain white or taken to match your ceiling or wall with a coat of emulsion. Light travels downward from a GU10 lamp held inside the body, and we would choose a 50mm reflector lamp here for a tidy, contained pool of light rather than a wide wash.

We reach for these where a run of small pendants is wanted over a kitchen island, a breakfast bar or a long console, spaced out so each one drops its own patch of light. A single unit works well beside a bed, over a stairwell half landing or above a reading chair. It is a good choice if you want the fitting to read as part of the plaster rather than as an object, and it will dim if you fit a dimmable lamp on a compatible circuit. The drop can be set short for a low ceiling or let out for a tall room.

The body is cast gypsum, which gives it a soft chalky surface and a little weight in the hand, set against the polished chrome above. Gypsum shows marks more readily than metal, so dust it with a soft brush and keep water away from it; small scuffs can be touched in with matt paint rather than scrubbed. It carries a one year warranty. The same range runs to cone, cylinder and larger dome pendants, along with a set of gypsum wall lights, so a whole room can be worked in one material. Lamps are not included.

Which lamp should I fit?

It takes a single GU10 lamp, and a 50mm reflector LED is the one we would suggest. Maximum rating is 50W. Lamps are supplied separately.

Can I really paint it?

Yes. The white surface is designed to be painted, so you can take it back to the same shade as your ceiling or go for a contrast. Keep paint off the polished chrome and the lamp holder.

How high and how low can it hang?

The drop runs from 285mm at its shortest to 1310mm at its longest, which covers everything from a low hallway ceiling to a proper hanging height over a dining table or island.

How big is it?

Compact. The fitting measures 90mm across, so it reads as a small block of light rather than a large shade, and it works in multiples without crowding a ceiling.

Will it work on a dimmer?

It will, as long as the GU10 lamp you buy is marked as dimmable and is matched to the dimmer you already have.

How do I keep it clean?

Turn the power off and let the lamp cool, then take dust off the painted surface with a soft dry brush. A soft cloth is enough for the chrome. Avoid scouring pads and solvent cleaners.
