Description

The Agatarla is a single piece of clear recycled glass blown as a flask: a rounded belly drawing in to a long straight neck, open at the top where a brass rod runs down the inside to the lampholder. It hangs from a brass chain with a rust braided flex looped beside it. The glass is clear, with the faint waves and thickness changes of glass blown by mouth. This is the small: 47cm tall and 27.5cm across.

The proportion is what separates the two sizes. At 27.5cm across, the small is narrow enough to hang in a row over an island or a run of worktop without the bellies crowding each other, where the large needs to hang alone. The neck is long relative to the belly, so the fitting reads as a vertical line with a bulb suspended in it rather than as a globe. Clear glass hides nothing, so the bulb is half of what anyone sees, and it is dimmable, which matters when the filament is this exposed. It takes one E27 bulb up to 70W, the flex runs 1.4m, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The glass is recycled and blown by hand, so the profile, the wall thickness and the bubbles held in it differ from one pendant to the next. The fittings and the chain are brass. The Agatarla range also holds a large size, 63cm tall and 40cm across. Bulbs are not included.
