Description

The Adastra 1U PDU is a rack-mounted power distribution unit with eight UK BS1363 sockets in a 483mm-wide 1U steel chassis, connected to mains via a 1.8m hardwired cable terminating in a UK plug. The unit provides distributed power access for equipment mounted in 19-inch racks without needing individual trailing sockets or extension leads cluttering the cabinet.

Designed for AV installation racks, broadcast studios, server rooms and network cabinets where multiple pieces of equipment need mains power from a single feed point. The 1U height occupies minimal vertical rack space and the eight sockets are arranged in a single horizontal row across the front panel, allowing most UK plugs to sit side-by-side without blocking adjacent sockets. The 13A total load capacity suits typical rack equipment draws including audio interfaces, routers, patch panels, small amplifiers and media players.

The steel chassis includes rack ears with standard 19-inch hole spacing for mounting in square-hole or tapped racks, and the 1.8m lead length provides routing flexibility when the PDU sits mid-rack but the main power inlet is at cabinet top or bottom. At 783g the unit adds minimal weight to a populated rack. No circuit protection is built into the PDU itself, so upstream MCB or RCD protection is required as part of the installation.

Frequently Asked

What's the maximum load across all eight sockets?

The PDU is rated at 13A total load across all eight sockets combined, which equates to approximately 3,000W at 230V. Individual sockets do not have separate current limits, so the total draw from all connected equipment must stay below 13A to avoid tripping the upstream MCB.

Does the PDU include surge protection or circuit breakers?

No. The unit provides socket distribution only and contains no built-in MCB, RCD or surge protection. Upstream circuit protection is required as part of the rack installation, typically via the building's consumer unit or a dedicated distribution board feeding the cabinet.

Will all eight sockets accept plugs side-by-side?

Most standard UK plugs will sit side-by-side without obstruction. Larger wall-wart power supplies or right-angled plugs may block one adjacent socket depending on their physical size and plug orientation.

Can the 1.8m lead be replaced or extended?

The lead is hardwired into the PDU chassis and not user-replaceable. If the 1.8m length is insufficient, the PDU can be fed from an extension lead or the rack repositioned closer to the mains outlet. Permanent extension should be done by a qualified electrician using appropriate cable rating.
