Description

A square plate of polished chrome carries rows of prism-cut crystal, so the fitting reads as a shallow block of light rather than a hanging shape. The crystal is cut in facets rather than smooth spheres, which makes the sparkle sharper and more geometric. Five E14 candle lamps sit behind the glass, throwing brightness sideways through the cut edges as well as down into the room. At 46cm across it is a generous square, and it holds tight to the ceiling line.

We reach for this in rooms where a chandelier would hang too low: hallways and landings, bedrooms under a shallower ceiling, a dining room with a beam overhead. It gives enough light to work as the main fitting in a room of decent size, and it will dim if you fit dimmable lamps, which is worth doing over a bed or a table. LED candle lamps are what we would put in it. We stock the square shape in polished chrome and in antique brass, so it can follow whichever metal already runs through the room.

The framework is metal, brightly plated and polished, with faceted crystal set across the face and sides to break the light up. Dust is what dulls crystal, so a soft lint-free cloth run over the facets every few weeks keeps them lively; switch off at the wall and let the lamps cool before you start, and keep polish sprays away from the plating. It carries a one year warranty. Smaller squares in the same prism crystal run alongside it, and there are round versions with sphere crystal for a softer outline, plus a switched wall light to match. Lamps are not included.

The square measures 460mm by 460mm and drops 270mm, so it keeps well clear of head height in a hallway or a bedroom with a lower ceiling.

How do I clean the crystal?

Switch off and let the lamps cool, then work over the facets with a dry lint-free cloth. Avoid household sprays and abrasive creams, which mark plated chrome.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it out of bathrooms, shower rooms and anywhere exposed to steam or splashing.

Does it come in another finish or shape?

The same square is offered in antique brass, and round versions with sphere crystal are available in both finishes, in smaller sizes as well.
