Description

A square plate of polished chrome carries a shallow bed of prism crystal, cut so the light breaks and scatters instead of pooling in one place. Four candle lamps sit behind the glass, spreading brightness evenly across the 38cm face. Because it fits tight to the ceiling, it lights a room without anything dropping into head height, and the prisms catch light from the side as well, so it reads as glitter rather than a flat panel.

We reach for this one in hallways, landings and bedrooms where a pendant would hang too low, and it does good work over a stairwell with a close ceiling. There is enough output here for a decent sized sitting room or a double bedroom, and dimmable lamps will let you take the level down in the evening. We would fit LED candles rated at 20W or under, and E14 lampholders make replacements easy to find anywhere.

The frame is metal under its polished chrome finish, with the prisms held in ordered rows across the underside. Faceted glass shows dust sooner than most surfaces, so switch off at the wall and go over it now and then with a dry lint free cloth, using the same cloth on the chrome rim to keep the shine up. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; steam and splashing are not its territory. We stock the square shape in smaller and larger versions, and in antique brass as well as chrome, while the round shape in the same range swaps the prisms for crystal spheres. There is a switched wall light too, if you want the pair. Lamps are not included, and it carries a one year warranty.
