Description
This is a tall stoneware vase in yellow, 35.5cm tall and 21cm across at its widest, with a finish painted by hand. Its body swells from a narrow foot to a full shoulder that rises higher on one side than the other, so the outline leans a little and changes as you walk round it. Vertical bands of lighter speckle run from the rim to the foot over a mottled yellow ground scattered with darker flecks, which gives the surface real depth at close range. Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, and at 1.7KG this piece has a reassuring weight in the hand.
At 35.5cm tall it stands well on a console table, sideboard or hall table beside a lamp and a few books, or at the centre of a round dining table as the tallest piece on it. The mouth is narrow, so it suits a few long branches or stems rather than a big bunch; olive branches and sprays of spring blossom both sit naturally in it. Its yellow works warmly with natural wood, woven rattan and exposed brick, and it holds its own beside blue and patterned ceramics too, which makes it an easy choice for a living room, hallway or kitchen-diner.
The pattern is painted by hand rather than printed, and the lighter bands wander a little as they run down the body, which suits the gently uneven shoulder. It does not go in the dishwasher, so wash it by hand and dry it before it goes back on display. As a practical styling note, turn it until the higher side of the shoulder faces the room, and set a shorter vase or a lamp beside it so its height reads clearly against them.

Frequently Asked
How big is the vase?
It is 35.5cm tall and 21cm across at its widest, a good height for a console table, sideboard or dining table.
What is it made of?
It is made of 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, and the speckled pattern is painted by hand rather than printed.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. The maker states it is not dishwasher safe, so wash it by hand and dry it before putting it back on display.
How heavy is it?
It weighs 1.7KG, so it feels solid in the hand and has a reassuring weight on a shelf or table.
What will it hold best?
The mouth is narrow, so it suits a few long branches or stems, such as olive or spring blossom, rather than a large, full bunch.
Is the colour even all over?
No. The yellow is mottled with darker flecks and crossed by lighter speckled bands that run from the rim to the foot.
