Description

A pair of round coffee tables that sit one inside the other, the larger 93cm across and 43cm high. Each top is laid up from wedges of mango wood running out from the centre, and every wedge is carved with a close chevron ribbing that changes direction from one to the next, so the light breaks differently across each segment. The rim of the top is notched in the same way. Both tables stand on an iron frame of a ring under the top, four legs and a second ring at the floor.

The larger table is 93cm across, which puts it in the middle of a seating area rather than against one side of it, and at 43cm the top sits a little below seat height. The smaller table slides in underneath and pulls out to stand on its own beside a chair, so the pair works as one table or as two. They stand together in front of a sofa with the smaller drawn part way out.

The tops are mango wood and the frames are iron, finished in a dark brown that reads closer to rust than to black. The carving is done by hand and follows the grain, so the pattern is never quite the same twice and the tone shifts between one wedge and the next. Two tables come in a set. Aasha is also made as a pair of nesting side tables and as a half moon console table.
