Description
The Aamani is a dining chair 91cm tall on a hand-carved mango wood frame, with the seat and the back filled in woven recycled paper cord. The back is an open lattice worked between two uprights, and the cord is wrapped round the uprights themselves so the weave carries on into the frame. The seat is woven in the same cord, closer and flatter than the back. The legs are square in section and braced low down by stretchers. A linen seat pad with ties comes with the chair and fastens to the back uprights.
The seat sits 45cm from the floor and is 50cm deep, which is dining height, and the chair is 46cm wide overall, so a row of them will sit along a table without the backs touching. The pad ties on. It belongs at a table first and at a desk second, and it works without the pad as well as with it. It weighs 5.7kg.
The frame is mango wood, taken from trees once they have stopped bearing fruit, and every piece is carved by hand, so the tone and the grain vary from chair to chair. The cord is recycled paper: long strips of flat paper twisted into a rope, set into coils, waxed against staining and then woven onto the frame by hand. The range also runs to a counter chair and a counter stool.

Frequently Asked
How high is the seat?
45cm from the floor and 50cm deep.
Is a seat pad included?
Yes. A linen pad with ties comes with the chair, and it can be left off.
What is the seat woven from?
Recycled paper cord, twisted from flat paper into a rope, waxed and then woven onto the frame by hand.
Will every chair look the same?
Not exactly. The frame is carved by hand and the cord is woven by hand, so the tone and the weave differ from chair to chair.
How do I look after it?
Wipe the wood regularly with a soft dry cloth to take off dust and moisture, working in the direction of the grain. Mild soap and water can be used, but sparingly, as too much water can damage the finish, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials away. The pad cover comes off for the washing machine on a delicate wash at 30 degrees. Do not tumble dry it, and note that the colour may fade in direct sunlight.
