Description

The Aamani counter stool stands 70cm high on four tapered mango wood legs, with no back and no arms. The seat is handwoven from recycled paper cord, wrapped front to back over the seat rails in close ribs and dipped through the middle so it scoops rather than sitting flat. The legs splay slightly outwards and are braced low down by a stretcher on each side and a cross member through the centre.

At 70cm, and with no back, the stool suits a kitchen counter or a breakfast bar rather than a dining table. It is 40cm wide and 49cm deep, so two or three will sit along a run of counter without touching, and one draws up to a kitchen island. It takes up to 130kg.

The frame is mango wood and the seat is recycled paper cord. The cord is made by twisting long strips of flat paper into a rope, which is coiled and waxed, and it is woven onto the frame by hand. Mango is a by-product of fruit growing in India, cut for timber only once the trees have stopped bearing. The Aamani is also made with a corded back, and as a dining chair.

Frequently Asked

How high is the seat?

70cm. The stool is backless, so the top of it is the seat, which suits a kitchen counter or a breakfast bar.

Does it have a back?

No. It is backless. The Aamani is also made with a corded back.

What is the seat woven from?

Recycled paper cord. Long strips of flat paper are twisted into a rope, coiled and waxed, then woven onto the mango wood frame by hand.

How much weight will it take?

Up to 130kg.

How should it be looked after?

Wipe it with a soft dry cloth to lift dust and moisture, always along the grain of the wood. Mild soap and water can be used sparingly, but too much water will damage the finish. Keep it out of strong direct sunlight, and away from extremes of heat and humidity, which can crack or split the wood.
