Description

The Knightsbridge BT9ACTEMS is a 9W LED bulkhead fitting with CCT switching between 3000K, 4000K and 5700K, integrated 3-hour maintained emergency backup, and an adjustable microwave sensor that triggers the light when motion is detected. The IP65 polycarbonate housing suits both wall and ceiling mounting in internal or external installations where lighting automation, emergency illumination and weather resistance are all required.

Designed for commercial corridors, stairwells, loading bays, car parks, storage areas and external walkways where lights need to activate automatically and provide emergency backup during mains failure, the bulkhead combines three functions in one fitting: presence-triggered switching via the microwave sensor, colour temperature selection via a recessed switch on the gear tray, and emergency operation that maintains illumination at 190lm for three hours when the mains supply is interrupted. The sensor detection range, lux threshold and hold time are all adjustable via potentiometers accessed when the hinged gear tray is opened.

The 256mm circular polycarbonate body mounts flush to the wall or ceiling with 74mm projection and conceals a hinged LED gear tray, accessible without fully removing the fitting. The opal polycarbonate diffuser gives a wide 115° beam angle, distributing light evenly across circulation spaces. The CCT switch allows the colour temperature to be changed post-installation: 3000K warm white outputs 730lm, 4000K neutral white outputs 810lm, and 5700K cool white outputs 780lm. The SMD LED source has a rated L70B50 life of 50,000 hours and a CRI >80. Push-fit fast-fix terminal blocks simplify first-time wiring and maintenance access.

What does the emergency function do?

The integrated emergency module maintains illumination at 190lm for three hours when the mains supply fails. It operates in maintained mode (always lit when mains is present, then switches to battery during outage), non-maintained mode (only lit during outage), or switched mode (controlled by a light switch normally, then auto-lit during outage). The emergency battery recharges from the mains when supply is restored.

How does the microwave sensor work?

The microwave sensor detects movement within its range and triggers the light to switch on. Detection range, lux threshold (the ambient light level below which the sensor will activate) and hold time (how long the light stays on after last detecting movement) are all adjustable via potentiometers on the gear tray. This allows the sensor to be tuned to the specific installation environment.

Can the colour temperature be changed after installation?

Yes. A recessed CCT switch on the hinged gear tray allows the colour temperature to be changed between 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, and 5700K cool white without re-wiring. Each setting produces a different lumen output: 730lm at 3000K, 810lm at 4000K, 780lm at 5700K.

Is it suitable for external installation?

Yes. The IP65 rating provides protection against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, making the bulkhead suitable for external wall or soffit mounting in sheltered or exposed locations. The polycarbonate construction resists impact and UV degradation.
