Description

The Knightsbridge AC65170EM is a 6ft single-tube high-frequency fluorescent fitting in a grey polycarbonate IP65-rated enclosure with integrated 3-hour emergency lighting. The fitting takes one 70W 6ft T8 fluorescent tube (sold separately) and uses an electronic high-frequency ballast that runs more efficiently and quietly than older magnetic ballast fittings. The grey polycarbonate base and prismatic diffuser seal against dust and water jets to IP65 standard.

Designed for warehouses, workshops, stairwells, covered loading bays and external canopies, the fitting provides both general task lighting during mains operation and automatic emergency illumination during power cuts. The emergency function can be configured as maintained (lamp runs on mains and battery), non-maintained (lamp runs only on battery during power failure) or switched (lamp off on mains, runs on battery during failure). The 3-hour emergency duration meets UK building regulations for escape route lighting in commercial and industrial settings.

The fitting measures 1828mm long by 94mm wide with a 90mm projection from the ceiling or wall. Installation uses the included brackets and 14 metal fixing clips that secure the diffuser to the base, allowing the cover to be removed for lamp replacement without disturbing the main fixings. The prismatic diffuser spreads light across a wider area than a clear cover, reducing glare and giving more even illumination along corridors and workspaces. The Class I earthed construction requires connection to mains earth.

What lamp does it take?

The fitting takes one 70W 6ft (1828mm) T8 fluorescent tube with bi-pin (G13) base. The tube is not included and must be purchased separately. Most installations use a 4000K or 6500K cool white tube for workshop and warehouse applications.

How does the emergency function work?

The fitting has an integrated battery pack that charges from the mains supply. During a power cut, the battery automatically powers the tube for up to 3 hours. The emergency mode can be configured as maintained (lamp always on), non-maintained (lamp only on during power failure), or switched (lamp off on mains, on during failure).

Can it be installed outdoors?

The IP65 rating allows installation in covered outdoor locations such as canopies, loading bays and sheltered walkways where the fitting is protected from direct rain but exposed to dust and moisture. Fully exposed outdoor installation is not recommended as the polycarbonate housing may degrade under prolonged UV exposure.

How is the diffuser secured?

The prismatic diffuser clips onto the base using 14 metal fixing clips supplied with the fitting. The clips allow the diffuser to be removed for lamp changes without removing the main mounting brackets from the ceiling or wall.
