Description
The Knightsbridge ST6A is a 6A double-pole inline cord switch designed for table lamps, floor lamps and low-wattage portable lighting. The switch body is made from white polycarbonate with an IP20 rating, housing a rocker mechanism that isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off. The switch accepts 2-core or 3-core lighting cable between 0.75mm and 1.5mm diameter.
The switch is installed inline on a lamp cord, typically 300-600mm from the plug or the lamp base depending on where the user wants the switch to sit. The polycarbonate body splits into two halves, allowing the cable to be stripped, fitted to screw terminals inside, and reassembled without needing to cut a plug or lampsholder. This makes it suitable for rewiring existing lamps or building new ones from scratch.
At 60.5mm long, 26.4mm wide and 15.4mm high, the switch sits low-profile on the cable without creating a bulky interruption. The white finish matches standard UK white flex and blends into light-coloured interiors. The 6A rating handles loads up to 1,380W on 230V mains, covering most table lamps, reading lights and decorative floor lamps with single or dual E27 or E14 fittings.

Frequently Asked
What cable size does it accept?
The screw terminals accept cable between 0.75mm and 1.5mm diameter. This covers standard UK 2-core and 3-core lighting flex used on table lamps and floor lamps.
Is it suitable for 2-core or 3-core cable?
Both. The switch has an earth terminal, so it can be wired with 3-core cable where the lamp requires earthing (metal body lamps). For double-insulated Class II lamps with plastic or fabric bodies, 2-core cable is sufficient.
What is the maximum wattage?
The 6A rating handles up to 1,380W on 230V mains. Most table lamps and floor lamps use between 40W and 100W total, so the switch has significant headroom.
Can it be fitted to an existing lamp cord?
Yes. The polycarbonate body splits into two halves, allowing the cable to be fitted to the terminals and reassembled without cutting a plug or lampsholder. This makes it suitable for rewiring existing lamps or adding a switch to a lamp that lacks one.
