Description
The Knightsbridge ST6ABK is a 6A double-pole inline cord switch housed in a black polycarbonate body measuring 60.5mm long by 26.4mm wide. The switch interrupts both live and neutral conductors when operated, providing safer isolation for table lamps, desk lamps and other low-wattage portable lighting than single-pole switching.
Designed for installation on 2-core or 3-core lighting flex between the plug and the lamp holder, the switch accepts cable between 0.75mm² and 1.5mm² in screw terminals inside the housing. The body splits into two halves for cable entry and re-wiring, allowing replacement of damaged flex or retrofitting to existing lamp bases. The rocker mechanism operates with a firm click and the Class II rating means the switch is suitable for double-insulated luminaires without earth connection, though an earth terminal is provided for 3-core cable where needed.
The 6A rating handles loads up to 1,380W on 230V mains, covering most table lamps, reading lamps and small decorative fittings using E27, E14, B22 or GU10 bulbs. The black finish suits contemporary and industrial lamp bases and blends with black, grey or dark-coloured flex. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations away from bathrooms and outdoor areas.

Frequently Asked
What cable size does the switch accept?
The screw terminals inside the housing accept 2-core or 3-core lighting flex between 0.75mm² and 1.5mm² cross-sectional area. Standard table lamp flex is typically 0.75mm², making this switch compatible with most UK portable lighting.
Is the switch re-wireable?
Yes. The polycarbonate body splits into two halves secured by a single screw, allowing the cable to be replaced or the switch to be retrofitted to existing lamp flex. The screw terminals release and re-clamp the conductors without soldering.
What's the maximum wattage it can handle?
The 6A rating on 230V mains supports loads up to 1,380W. Most table lamps and reading lamps draw between 5W and 60W depending on bulb type, so the switch has substantial overhead for typical domestic use.
Can it be used outdoors or in bathrooms?
No. The IP20 rating means the switch is suitable only for dry indoor locations. It should not be installed on outdoor lighting, bathroom lamps, or anywhere exposed to moisture or damp conditions.
