Description

The Knightsbridge EMKIT2L is a 50W LED emergency conversion kit that adds backup lighting capability to standard LED fittings. Built around a LiFePO4 battery, the kit provides 9-48V output at 100mA and operates in maintained, non-maintained or switched modes depending on wiring configuration. The unit runs on 230V 50Hz mains supply and supports LED luminaires up to 50W maximum load.

Designed for commercial installations where emergency lighting continuity is required under Building Regulations Part B or BS 5266, the kit retrofits into existing LED downlights, panels and battens without requiring a complete fitting replacement. The white polycarbonate housing measures 225mm x 60mm x 32mm and fits ceiling voids with a minimum 100mm clearance above the cut-out. Installation requires a 40mm diameter cut-out for the emergency status indicator and test button.

The LiFePO4 battery chemistry provides longer cycle life and more stable discharge than traditional NiCd or NiMH emergency batteries, with the battery included in the 3-year warranty. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor environments such as offices, retail spaces, corridors and stairwells. The Class II construction means no earth connection is required to the emergency kit itself, simplifying retrofit wiring.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between maintained and non-maintained operation?

Non-maintained means the emergency light only activates when mains power fails. Maintained means the light runs continuously on mains power and switches to battery when power fails. The wiring configuration during installation determines which mode the kit operates in.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

A minimum 100mm clearance above the ceiling cut-out is required to accommodate the kit housing and allow adequate ventilation around the battery compartment.

Is the battery replaceable?

Yes. The LiFePO4 battery is a replaceable module. Typical battery life is 4-5 years depending on discharge cycles and ambient temperature. The 3-year warranty covers both the electronics and the battery.

What LED fittings is this compatible with?

The kit works with LED downlights, panels and battens that operate within the 9-48V output range and draw up to 50W maximum load. Check the LED driver output voltage specification of your fitting before pairing with this emergency kit.
