Description

This Knightsbridge 45A DP cooker switch combines a double-pole isolation switch rated at 45A with a 13A switched socket outlet, housed behind a brushed brass faceplate with a black insert. Both the 45A switch and the 13A socket have neon indicators that illuminate when the respective circuit is live, providing visual confirmation of power status before maintenance or cleaning work begins.

Designed for kitchens where electric cookers, ovens, and hobs need to be isolated at the wall for safety during cleaning or servicing, the 45A switch provides full double-pole isolation, disconnecting both live and neutral lines when switched off. The additional 13A socket allows small kitchen appliances such as kettles, toasters or mixers to be plugged in at the same location, reducing the need for separate socket installations near the cooker position. The unit requires a 47mm minimum back box depth and fits standard UK wiring configurations.

The premium-grade steel construction and brushed brass finish provide durability in high-use kitchen environments where moisture, heat and repeated switching are typical. The black insert behind the brass faceplate defines the edges of each switch and socket aperture, giving a clean visual separation between control elements. The brushed finish reduces fingerprint visibility compared to polished brass, making it suitable for high-traffic areas. Knightsbridge backs this unit with a 25-year warranty, reflecting the construction quality and expected lifespan in residential and light commercial kitchens.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between this and a standard socket?

The 45A switch is rated to isolate high-draw cooking appliances like electric ovens and hobs, which typically draw 30-45A on a dedicated circuit. Standard 13A sockets only handle loads up to 3,120W (13A at 230V). The 13A socket on this unit is a secondary outlet for small appliances, not the cooker itself.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed to accommodate the switch mechanism and socket terminals. Standard 35mm boxes are not suitable for this unit.

What do the neon indicators show?

Each neon illuminates when its circuit is live. The neon on the 45A switch confirms power to the cooker circuit even when the switch is off, while the 13A socket neon confirms the socket is switched on and live. This allows visual confirmation before starting maintenance work.

Can I use this to control two separate cookers?

No. The 45A switch is designed to isolate a single high-draw cooking appliance or a combined cooker/oven installation on one circuit. The 13A socket is for secondary appliances only and cannot power a second cooker.
