Description

This Knightsbridge 3m Cat6 UTP networking cable connects devices to routers, switches or wall sockets using moulded RJ45 plugs at both ends. The cable supports Gigabit Ethernet speeds up to 1000Mbps and 10GbE standards for high-bandwidth applications, making it suitable for streaming, file transfers and networked storage where Cat5e may bottleneck.

The over-moulded connectors include integral strain relief that prevents the cable from kinking or damage at the plug junction, and the snag-free boot design allows the cable to be routed through cable management without catching on adjacent cables or edges. Common applications include connecting desktop PCs, laptops, smart TVs, games consoles, network-attached storage and VoIP phones to a home or office network.

The CCA (copper-clad aluminium) construction keeps the cable flexible and relatively lightweight compared to solid copper Cat6, making it easier to route in tight spaces behind desks or TV units. The black jacket blends into typical home and office environments without standing out visually. The IP20 rating indicates the cable is designed for indoor dry-location use only.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between Cat6 and Cat5e?

Cat6 supports higher frequencies (up to 250MHz vs 100MHz for Cat5e) and is rated for 10 Gigabit Ethernet over short runs, whereas Cat5e tops out at Gigabit speeds. For typical home internet connections under 1Gbps the performance difference is minimal, but Cat6 provides headroom for faster network equipment in future.

Can this cable be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating indicates this cable is designed for indoor dry locations only. Outdoor installations require UV-resistant jacket materials and higher ingress protection ratings.

What does CCA construction mean?

CCA stands for copper-clad aluminium — the conductors have an aluminium core with a copper coating. This makes the cable lighter and more flexible than solid copper Cat6, but CCA cables have slightly higher resistance and are not suitable for Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications that draw significant current.

Is the cable shielded?

No. UTP stands for unshielded twisted pair. For environments with significant electromagnetic interference (near motors, fluorescent lighting or radio equipment), shielded FTP or STP Cat6 cable would be more appropriate.
