Description

The Knightsbridge 32A key card switch activates room power and lighting when a guest inserts their hotel key card into the slot. A red backlit arrow guides card insertion in dark rooms, and the switch cuts power to all connected circuits 30 seconds after the card is removed, reducing energy waste in vacant hotel rooms.

Designed for hotel, serviced apartment and guest accommodation installation, the switch controls lighting circuits, socket circuits and HVAC systems simultaneously. The 32A rating allows it to switch high-draw loads including air conditioning units without overheating, making it suitable for managing an entire room's electrical load from a single activation point near the entry door.

The polished chrome screwless faceplate sits flush against the wall with a 4.3mm projection and uses a built-in gasket to seal the edge against dust and moisture ingress to IP20 standard. The cover plate clips onto a separate metal sub-frame fixed to the back box, so there are no visible screws once installed. The switch body is constructed from premium-grade steel and ABS, certified to EN 60669-1 for electrical safety in commercial installations.

What back box depth is required?

The switch requires a minimum 47mm back box depth to accommodate the 31.5mm recessed mechanism. Standard UK back boxes at 35mm or 25mm depth are not suitable for this product.

How long does the power stay on after the card is removed?

Power cuts to all connected circuits 30 seconds after the key card is withdrawn from the slot. This delay allows guests to remove the card and exit the room without the lights cutting immediately.

What does the red backlit arrow indicate?

The red arrow illuminates to show the correct orientation for inserting the key card in low-light conditions when guests first enter a dark room. It remains lit when the card is inserted and the switch is active.

Can it control air conditioning as well as lighting?

Yes. The 32A rating allows the switch to control high-draw loads including air conditioning units, heating systems, lighting circuits and socket circuits simultaneously, making it suitable for managing an entire hotel room's electrical load from one activation point.
