Description

The Knightsbridge 20AX DP key switch module is a grid-system component designed for emergency lighting test circuits, marked 'EMG LTG TEST' on the faceplate. The module clips into the front of Knightsbridge grid mounting frames (sold separately) and carries a 20AX double-pole rating on 230V 50Hz mains. A removable key is included to control access to the switching function.

Designed for commercial buildings, schools, hotels and public spaces that require regular emergency lighting testing under UK Building Regulations, the key switch isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off. The module fits Knightsbridge grid frames in 1-gang, 2-gang and larger configurations, allowing it to be combined with sockets, dimmers and other grid modules in a single faceplate assembly. The 35mm minimum back box depth matches standard UK dry-lining boxes.

The smoked bronze finish is a dark metallic grey-brown tone with a low-sheen surface that sits between polished brass and matt black in warmth. The ABS body and steel internal contacts provide IP20 protection for indoor use. The key can be removed when the switch is in either the on or off position, preventing unauthorised changes to the emergency lighting circuit state during routine testing or maintenance.

What is a grid module and how is it fitted?

Grid modules are individual electrical components (switches, sockets, dimmers, key switches) that clip into a separate grid mounting frame to build custom multi-function faceplates. The module clips in from the front of the frame after the frame is fixed to the back box, requiring no screws to secure the module itself.

What mounting frame does this module require?

This module fits Knightsbridge grid frames in any gang configuration (1-gang, 2-gang, 3-gang, etc.). The frame must be purchased separately and is fixed to a 35mm minimum depth back box before the module is clipped in.

Can the key be removed in both positions?

Yes. The key can be removed when the switch is in either the on or off position, allowing the circuit state to be locked during emergency lighting testing or maintenance to prevent unauthorised changes.

What does 20AX double-pole mean?

20AX is a current rating of 20 amps for inductive loads (motors, transformers), which is higher than the 13A rating of standard UK sockets. Double-pole (DP) means the switch isolates both the live and neutral lines when switched off, providing additional safety over single-pole switching.
