Description
The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang double pole switch combines a DP rocker switch, neon power indicator and flex outlet behind a brushed chrome square edge faceplate. The 20A rating handles fixed appliances up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for immersion heaters, instantaneous water heaters, and other high-draw permanent installations where local isolation is required.
The neon indicator glows red when the switch is in the on position, providing a visual check of appliance status from across a room. The flex outlet aperture at the base of the plate allows a cable to exit cleanly where the appliance is surface-wired rather than buried in the wall, common in airing cupboard and utility room installations. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when off, meeting requirements for fixed appliance control under BS 7671 wiring regulations.
The brushed chrome finish is applied to premium-grade steel rather than plated plastic, giving the plate a solid feel and resistance to corrosion in damp environments like utility rooms and garages. The square edge design includes a built-in silicone gasket around the perimeter, sealing the plate against the wall and preventing dust ingress. The 25mm minimum back box depth fits standard UK electrical boxes, and the screw terminals accept solid or stranded cable up to 4mm².

Frequently Asked
What appliances is this switch rated for?
The 20A rating supports fixed appliances up to 4,600W at 230V. Common applications include immersion heaters, instantaneous electric water heaters, storage heaters, and high-power extractor fans. It is not intended for standard plug socket circuits.
What is the flex outlet for?
The flex outlet aperture at the base of the plate allows a cable to exit where the appliance is surface-wired. This is typical in airing cupboards and utility rooms where cable runs are visible rather than buried in the wall.
Does the neon indicator require a separate connection?
No. The neon indicator is integrated into the switch mechanism and illuminates automatically when the switch is in the on position and the circuit is live. No additional wiring is needed beyond the standard double pole connections.
Is the switch certified for Part P compliance?
The switch is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries a 25-year warranty from Knightsbridge. When installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671, it meets the requirements for fixed appliance control circuits under Part P of the Building Regulations.
