Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch combines a double-pole rocker switch, neon indicator and flex outlet behind a brushed brass flat plate. Rated at 20A on 230V mains, the switch is designed for hard-wired control of fixed appliances such as water heaters, immersion heaters, washing machines and other high-draw domestic equipment that does not plug into a standard 13A socket.

The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing additional safety for appliances that remain connected to the mains when not in use. The red neon indicator illuminates when the switch is in the on position, giving visual confirmation of live status from across a room — particularly useful for appliances located in utility cupboards or behind furniture. The flex outlet below the rocker allows appliance cable to exit the faceplate cleanly without needing a separate entry plate.

The brushed brass faceplate is made from premium-grade steel with a directional brushed finish that softens reflections and pairs with both traditional and contemporary interiors. At 2.5mm projection from the wall, the flat plate sits almost flush with the plaster surface, minimising visual bulk and making the switch easier to clean around. The plate measures 87.5mm square and fits a standard 25mm minimum back box depth. A built-in gasket behind the plate provides a snug fit against uneven wall surfaces and reduces ingress of dust into the back box.

What appliances is this switch suitable for?

The 20A rating makes it suitable for fixed hard-wired appliances such as immersion heaters, water heaters, washing machines, tumble dryers and other high-draw equipment that does not plug into a standard 13A socket. It is not designed for lighting circuits.

What does the neon indicator do?

The red neon illuminates when the switch is in the on position, providing visual confirmation that the appliance is connected to live mains power. This is particularly useful for appliances located in cupboards or areas where you cannot immediately see whether the equipment is receiving power.

What is the flex outlet for?

The flex outlet is a cable entry point below the rocker that allows the appliance cable to exit the faceplate cleanly without needing a separate cable entry plate. This is typical for hard-wired appliances where the cable comes directly from the appliance into the switch rather than being wired into a junction box behind the wall.

Is the flat plate screwless?

No. The image shows two visible fixing screws at the top and bottom of the faceplate. Knightsbridge produces a separate screwless range where the cover plate clips onto a concealed sub-frame, but this flat plate model uses traditional screw fixings.
