Description

The Knightsbridge 20A 1-gang DP switch controls fixed appliances such as immersion heaters, water heaters and electric showers up to 4,600W on 230V mains. The double pole design isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, providing additional safety for high-draw permanent installations. A red neon indicator at the top of the plate illuminates when the switch is on.

Designed for residential bathroom and utility room installations where the appliance has no plug or separate isolation point, the switch fits a standard 25mm back box and is wired via screw terminals at the rear. The square edge plate includes a built-in gasket that sits flush against the wall, reducing dust and moisture ingress. The rocker is colour-matched to the brushed chrome plate rather than being white plastic.

The brushed chrome finish is a directional brushed steel effect with a low-sheen metallic surface that resists fingerprints better than polished chrome. The 89mm square plate is certified to EN 60669-1 and carries a 25-year warranty. The neon indicator draws negligible power and helps confirm at a glance whether an immersion heater or similar appliance has been left on.

What appliances is this switch suitable for?

The 20A rating handles fixed appliances up to 4,600W on 230V mains, including immersion heaters, water heaters, electric showers and storage heaters. It is not suitable for standard plug-in appliances — those require a 13A socket.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon at the top of the plate illuminates when the switch is in the on position. This confirms at a glance whether an immersion heater or similar appliance is drawing power, which is useful when the appliance itself has no visible indicator.

Is this switch screwless?

No. This is a square edge plate with visible screw fixings. Knightsbridge produces a separate screwless version of this switch — use the search or filter to find the screwless variant if that finish is preferred.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The plate projects 10.5mm from the wall once fitted, giving a total projection of approximately 35-36mm including the back box.
