Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit controls power to fixed appliances like kitchen extractors, bathroom fans, water heaters and boilers. The unit features a red neon indicator above the switch that lights when the circuit is live, providing a visual confirmation of operational status. The brushed brass faceplate sits just 2.5mm proud of the wall surface, creating an ultra-low profile finish that reduces shadowing and projection compared to traditional deeper switch plates.

Designed for controlling appliances that require a dedicated fused supply rather than a standard socket outlet, the spur unit accepts a standard 13A fuse cartridge behind the removable fuse holder. The switch isolates the load side of the circuit when in the off position. The flat plate design uses a premium grade steel construction finished in brushed brass with a directional grain, giving a warm metallic accent that pairs well with traditional, classical and warm-toned contemporary interiors.

The integrated gasket between the faceplate and back box provides a seal that prevents plaster dust and debris from entering the unit during installation and ensures a flush fit to the wall. The unit is certified to BS 1363-4 and requires a 25mm minimum back box depth for safe installation. Two visible brass-toned fixings secure the plate to the back box, retaining a consistent metal finish across the entire faceplate including the screw heads.

Frequently Asked

What appliances need a fused spur rather than a socket?

Fused spurs are used for permanently wired appliances like kitchen extractors, bathroom extractor fans, water heaters, boilers, electric towel rails and hardwired ovens. These appliances typically do not have a plug and are connected directly to the building's wiring via the spur unit.

What does the neon indicator show?

The red neon window above the switch illuminates when the circuit is live and power is available to the appliance. It does not indicate whether the appliance itself is drawing current, only that the supply is switched on at the spur.

Can the fuse cartridge be replaced?

Yes. The fuse holder marked "FUSE" on the left side of the plate can be pulled out to access the 13A fuse cartridge. Standard BS 1362 13A cartridge fuses are available from electrical suppliers and most hardware shops.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed for safe installation. The 2.5mm faceplate projection means the total projection from the wall surface is approximately 27.5mm once fitted.
