Description
This Knightsbridge 50x50mm PIR sensor module detects motion within a 120° field up to approximately 5 metres away, switching connected lighting on for a pre-set three-minute duration before automatically turning off when the space is unoccupied. The module is sized to fit euro modular frames that accept 50x50mm inserts, allowing it to be combined with switches, sockets and other modules in a single faceplate.
Designed for hallways, communal corridors, bathrooms, storage rooms and other spaces where automatic lighting reduces the need for manual switching, the sensor operates on 230V mains and supports loads up to 100W LED or 200W incandescent. A built-in lux sensor prevents the lights from activating when natural daylight is sufficient, improving energy efficiency in rooms with windows or skylights. The 47mm minimum back box depth requirement fits standard UK cavity wall construction.
The white polycarbonate construction carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor use and a Class II double-insulated design, meaning no earth connection is required. The module wires into the lighting circuit using live and neutral terminals inside the back box, with the modular faceplate (sold separately) clipping over the installed module to complete the wall finish. White is the most common choice for residential and commercial installations where a neutral colour is preferred.

Frequently Asked
How long does the light stay on after detecting motion?
The sensor switches the light on for a pre-set three-minute duration after detecting movement. If motion continues, the timer resets. Once the space is unoccupied for three minutes, the light switches off automatically.
Does the lux sensor prevent the light from coming on during daylight?
Yes. The built-in lux sensor monitors ambient light levels and prevents the PIR from activating the lights when natural daylight is sufficient. This is useful in hallways or bathrooms with windows where daytime operation would waste energy.
What faceplate is needed to complete the installation?
The module requires a euro modular faceplate that accepts 50x50mm inserts. Knightsbridge produces compatible faceplates in various finishes including white, chrome, brass and black. The faceplate is sold separately.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating is suitable for dry indoor locations only. It cannot be installed in bathroom zones 0, 1 or 2 where direct contact with water is possible. It can be used in the outer bathroom zone (zone 3 or outside zones) where splashing is unlikely.
