Description

The Knightsbridge SN1000DPK is a 10AX 1-gang double-pole key switch designed specifically for emergency lighting testing, with the faceplate clearly marked 'EMG LTG TEST'. The key-operated mechanism restricts access to authorised personnel, preventing accidental activation during normal operation. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the key is turned, simulating a mains power failure to test emergency lighting circuits without cutting power to the entire building.

Designed for commercial, educational and institutional buildings where emergency lighting must be tested regularly under UK building regulations, the switch is typically mounted in electrical cupboards, service corridors or maintenance areas accessible only to facilities staff. The 16mm minimum back box depth allows installation in shallow wall voids where deeper boxes cannot be fitted. The IP20 rating suits indoor dry environments — electrical cupboards, plant rooms and service areas.

The faceplate is moulded from 9mm thermoset resin with an anti-microbial surface treatment that inhibits bacterial growth on high-touch surfaces in institutional environments. The white square-edge faceplate sits flush with the wall surface when installed, with visible screw fixings at top and bottom. The thermoset construction resists impact damage and UV yellowing better than standard thermoplastic faceplates.

Frequently Asked

What does double-pole switching mean?

Double-pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned. This simulates a complete mains failure, triggering emergency lighting to switch on as it would during a real power outage. Single-pole switches only isolate the live conductor and may not reliably trigger all emergency light units.

Where should this switch be installed?

The switch is typically installed in electrical cupboards, plant rooms or service corridors where access can be restricted to authorised maintenance personnel. It should not be installed in public areas where the key could be turned by unauthorised users.

What is the anti-microbial finish?

The faceplate has a surface treatment that inhibits bacterial growth on the switch surface. This is useful in healthcare, education and food-service environments where high-touch surfaces need additional hygiene protection beyond routine cleaning.

Does the key come with the switch?

Yes. Knightsbridge key switches ship with at least one key. Check the packaging for the exact number of keys supplied with this model.
