Description
The Knightsbridge 10A fan isolator key switch module is a single-width grid component designed to control and isolate bathroom or utility room extract fans. The triple-pole switching isolates live, neutral and switched live simultaneously, providing a safe isolation point for maintenance or extended periods when the fan is not needed. The key-operated switch restricts unauthorised switching, making it suitable for shared residential buildings, rental properties, or commercial washrooms where user control needs limiting.
The module clips into Knightsbridge's grid mounting frames (sold separately) from the front, allowing installation without removing the frame from the wall. This fits the Knightsbridge grid system, which accommodates multiple modules within a single faceplate — a fan isolator, sockets, switches or dimmers can be combined within one frame to reduce wall clutter in kitchens, utility rooms and bathrooms. The 25mm minimum back box depth requirement matches standard UK grid installation practice.
The polished chrome finish provides a high-gloss reflective surface that pairs with chrome taps, towel rails and cabinet hardware in bathrooms, or with polished metal accents in contemporary kitchens. The ABS and steel construction carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor use and a 1500A conditional short circuit current rating, meeting typical domestic wiring protection standards. The module measures 56.3mm high by 25mm wide, occupying one grid space within the frame.

Frequently Asked
What is the grid mounting frame and is it included?
Knightsbridge grid modules clip into separate mounting frames that are fixed to the back box and determine how many modules fit within one faceplate. The frame is sold separately — choose a 1-gang, 2-gang or 3-gang frame depending on how many modules you need to install together.
Why does a fan isolator need a key switch?
Key-operated switches prevent unauthorised switching, which is useful in rental properties, hotels, care homes or shared bathrooms where the fan needs to run on a timer or remain on continuously for building regulations compliance. The key can be removed once the switch is set to the desired position.
What is triple-pole switching?
Triple-pole switching isolates three conductors simultaneously: live, neutral and switched live. This provides a safe isolation point for maintenance or when the fan is not needed for extended periods, ensuring no current flows to the fan when the switch is in the off position.
Is the polished chrome finish suitable for bathrooms?
The IP20 rating is for dry indoor use, so the module itself should be installed outside bathroom zones where direct water contact or high humidity occurs. It pairs well with chrome bathroom fittings but should be positioned in accordance with UK wiring regulations for bathroom electrical installations.
