Description

The Knightsbridge 10A fan isolator key switch module is a triple-pole switching unit designed to isolate extractor fans and ventilation systems from the mains supply. The module fits Knightsbridge's grid mounting system, clipping into position from the front of a separate mounting frame without tools. The anthracite finish provides a dark grey neutral that pairs with both modern matt black installations and traditional white or chrome finishes.

The key-operated mechanism requires a removable key to switch the fan on or off, preventing unauthorised switching in commercial, hospitality and multi-occupancy residential settings such as hotel bathrooms, shared facilities and care homes. The triple-pole configuration isolates live, neutral and earth connections when switched off, giving a higher level of isolation than single-pole or double-pole switching for servicing and maintenance safety.

The module measures 56.3mm tall by 24.8mm wide, occupying a single grid position in the Knightsbridge grid range. The 2.5mm front projection sits flush with the mounting frame once installed, while the 17.3mm recessed depth behind the frame requires a 35mm minimum back box. The ABS and steel construction carries a 1500A conditional short circuit current rating and an IP20 ingress rating suitable for dry indoor locations. Knightsbridge backs the module with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is the purpose of the key-operated switch?

The removable key prevents unauthorised switching of the fan isolator. This is particularly useful in commercial and shared residential settings where the fan needs to remain isolated during servicing, or where building managers need to control ventilation systems centrally.

What back box depth is required?

A 35mm minimum back box depth is needed to accommodate the 17.3mm recessed depth of the module plus the mounting frame. Standard 35mm or deeper grid-compatible back boxes are suitable.

What is triple-pole switching?

Triple-pole switching isolates live, neutral and earth connections when the switch is in the off position. This provides a higher level of isolation than double-pole (live and neutral only) or single-pole (live only) switching, making maintenance and servicing safer.

Can this module be used in bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the module is suitable for dry indoor locations only. In bathrooms, it must be installed outside zones 0, 1 and 2 as defined by BS 7671 wiring regulations — typically this means at least 600mm from the edge of a bath or shower tray.
