Description

The Knightsbridge FP2191BB is a 1-gang 2-way intelligent dimmer handling loads from 10-200W for incandescent, halogen or resistive lamps, and 5-150W for dimmable LED lamps. The dimmer switches between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes via a control knob on the front of the brushed brass faceplate, allowing compatibility with different dimmable lamp technologies without needing to replace the dimmer when bulbs are changed.

Designed for residential installation in dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms where lighting levels need to be adjusted throughout the day, the dimmer operates as a push on/off rotary control. Pressing the knob turns the circuit on or off, while rotating it adjusts brightness from 5% to 100%. The trailing-edge mode is preset at the factory and works well with most modern dimmable LED lamps, while the leading-edge mode remains available for older halogen or incandescent fittings.

The flat plate sits just 2.5mm proud of the wall once fitted to a standard 25mm back box, making it one of the lowest-profile dimmers in the Knightsbridge range. The brushed brass finish uses premium-grade steel with a directional grain that softens reflections and pairs well with both warm traditional interiors and warmer-toned contemporary schemes. The dimmer includes overload protection, overheat protection and an inrush current limiter to protect the circuit when lamps are first switched on.

Knightsbridge recommends using matched lamps of the same brand, type and wattage on a single dimmer circuit to avoid compatibility issues. Mixing different LED brands or combining LEDs with incandescent lamps on the same dimmer can lead to flickering, reduced dimming range or premature lamp failure.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between trailing-edge and leading-edge modes?

Trailing-edge mode is optimised for dimmable LED and low-voltage halogen lamps and is preset at the factory. Leading-edge mode suits older incandescent and mains-voltage halogen lamps. The dimmer switches between modes using the control knob on the front of the plate, so the same dimmer works with different lamp technologies.

Can I mix LED bulbs from different brands on this dimmer?

Knightsbridge recommends against mixing lamp brands, types or wattages on a single dimmer circuit. Different LEDs have different driver designs, and mixing them can cause flickering, reduced dimming range or uneven brightness across the lamps.

What back box depth is needed?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is required. The flat plate itself projects just 2.5mm from the wall once installed, giving an overall depth of 27.5mm from the wall surface to the front of the dimmer knob.

How is the dimmer reset if it stops working?

The control knob on the front of the plate includes a reset function. See the Product Specification Sheet linked above for the reset procedure, which typically involves holding the knob in a specific position for several seconds to clear the internal memory.
