Description

Zila is a modern ceiling light built around a slim cylinder shade on an adjustable joint, so you can point its light exactly where you want it. The cylindrical shade is 5cm across and 12cm long, held out from a round mounting plate on a short arm, and it pivots to pick out a corner, a picture or a favourite chair. It takes one GU10 lamp, which is not included, so you choose the bulb and the colour of its light yourself. The whole fitting is matt white over an iron structure, a clean, quiet finish that sits back against a pale ceiling.

Because the shade angles, Zila gives directed light rather than a general glow, which makes it a useful accent and task light. We like it in a hallway turned along a row of pictures, above a desk in a study, over a reading chair in a living room, or aimed at a bookcase or alcove in a bedroom. A few spaced along a ceiling make simple, modern accent lighting. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. It works from an ordinary on-off switch on a 220-240V mains supply, and as a mains fitting it is for a qualified electrician to install.

Its structure is iron, finished all over in matt white, from the round plate to the end of the shade, so there is nothing to compete with the clean line of the cylinder. It carries a 2 year guarantee. On the styling side, it suits plain modern rooms with white or pale ceilings, where the plate all but disappears and the angled shade becomes the one detail you notice.
