Description

A cushion cover 60cm wide and 40cm tall, woven from jute and cotton in a deep looped pile that stands proud of the ground. The ground is a natural gold. Across the middle run two broad bands of green, sage at their outer edges and teal at their heart, carried through the same loops as the ground rather than laid over them. Between the two green bands sits a flat herringbone braid in natural and grey, with a thin indigo line running above and below it.

At 60 by 40 this is a rectangular cushion rather than a square, so it goes in front of square cushions on a sofa or along the head of a bed, and the bands run the long way across it. It goes on a sofa with a square cover of the same weave behind it. The pile is coarse and the bands are raised, so the cushion reads as texture from across a room and the colour only comes forward close to. Zairya is made in a square size too, and in a second colourway.

The cover is jute and cotton throughout. The base fabric is woven on a traditional loom and the pattern is built into the weave rather than applied to the surface: the green runs through the loops, and the herringbone braid is a different structure altogether. Because the whole fabric is worked by hand, the bands sit at slightly different heights on every cover and the depth of the green varies along their length.
