Zairya 150 x 240cm Cotton & Jute Kilim Rug - Natural

The Zairya is a flat woven rug in cotton and jute, 150 by 240cm and 1cm thick. The ground is undyed fibre, pale and flecked, with the weave showing across the whole field. Three narrow bands of pattern run across the width at intervals along the length, each a column of rust coloured chevrons edged on both sides by a fine olive saw-tooth line. A short fringe finishes each of the two short ends.

At 150 by 240cm it takes the floor in front of a three seater sofa with the front legs standing on it, or sits under a small dining table. It weighs 5.5kg and lies 1cm thick. On bare floorboards in front of a sofa it runs the length of the seating.

The ground is woven on a handloom in cotton and jute. The pattern is not woven in: it is hand screen printed onto the finished surface, built up layer by layer, so the chevrons sit on the weave rather than in it. Some shedding of fibre is to be expected from these materials.

Yes. The same rug is made in sea foam at the same size.

How should it be looked after?

Blot any spill immediately with a clean sponge or cloth. Vacuum with care, and not with a rotating brush head, which can damage the fibres. It can be professionally cleaned, and the colours may fade in direct sunlight.
