Description

The Yatin garden chair is a single run of acacia slats that curves from the top of the back down into the seat, with a flat plank set across the front edge of the seat to finish it. The slats are laid with a narrow gap between each one, so the panel reads as a series of lines rather than a solid board. It sits on a frame of flat iron bars that cross beneath the seat and splay out to four feet, joined low down by a straight stretcher, and the iron is finished in a rusted bronze left uneven along its length.

The chair is 75cm tall, 56cm wide and 87cm deep, so it takes far more floor front to back than a dining chair and gives a low seat that leans back. That depth suits a terrace, a paved corner or a spot at the edge of a lawn rather than a narrow balcony, and the 56cm width means two will stand side by side in under 1.2m. The Yatin range also runs to a bench, a side table and a coffee table.

The slats are acacia and the frame is iron. Acacia is a dense hardwood with a high oil content, and its colour runs from light amber through to dark mahogany within a single chair, deepening as the wood ages. Variation in colour, shading and grain between different parts of the same piece is normal, knots are a property of the timber, and cracks can open along the grain once the chair has stood outside for a season. No cushion is included.

Frequently Asked

Can it be left outside?

Yes, it is made for outdoor use. Storing it somewhere dry over the winter months will prolong its life.

Will the wood crack?

It can. Acacia develops cracks along the grain once it has been exposed to the weather. That is a natural property of the timber and not a flaw.

Why do the slats not match each other?

Variation in colour, shading and grain between different parts of one piece is normal in natural wood, and knots are a property of it. They add interest and do not affect how the chair performs.

How do I look after it?

A yearly wash with warm water lifts algae and pollution and restores the timber surface. Do not use abrasive or corrosive products on it. A natural water resistant oil or wax each season will prolong its life.

Does it come with a cushion?

No. The chair is supplied on its own.
