Description

Wrenna is a stoneware plant pot shaped like a fish, with a pointed nose, a small painted eye, a raised fin on its side and a broad, fanned tail. The body is covered in a handpainted floral pattern of little flowers set inside diamond-like frames, and the multicoloured decoration picks out the head, fin and tail so the fish reads clearly from across a room. It measures 25cm long, 11cm wide and 9cm tall and weighs 0.46KG, so it is a compact, low planter for one small plant rather than a pot for something tall.

Its low, open shape suits a trailing or bushy houseplant, a small fern or a little group of succulents, and the fish brings a playful note to a windowsill, bookshelf or desk without taking much room. It makes a cheerful pick for a bedroom, a sunny reading corner or a hallway console, and it is an easy gift for a friend who loves houseplants or anyone drawn to folk-style patterns. Because it stands only 9cm tall, it looks its best at eye level on a shelf, where the painted detail along the body can be seen properly.

The pot is made of 100% stoneware, a dense, hard-wearing ceramic fired at high temperature, and its decoration is painted by hand. It is not dishwasher safe, so clean it with a soft damp cloth or wash it gently by hand. The maker does not state whether it has a drainage hole, so the simplest approach is to keep your plant in its plastic nursery pot and stand that inside the fish, lifting it out at watering time. For a pleasing group, pair it with plain pots in soft neutral tones and let the fish take the lead; the styling props shown are not included.
