Description

These are four stoneware mugs, each holding 370ml and measuring 9cm across and 10cm tall, finished in a multicoloured reactive glaze. The glaze falls in splashes, drips and fine speckles across the body and over the handle, and the inside of each mug is glazed too, so the pattern stays in view with every sip. Reactive glaze moves in the kiln, so its marks rarely settle the same way twice. The body tapers gently from a broader base to the rim, and a narrow band of bare stoneware shows at the foot where the glaze stops.

At 370ml this is a full-sized mug rather than a small cup: room for a large tea, a milky coffee or a hot chocolate on a cold evening. A set of four covers breakfast for a household, or a round of drinks when friends visit. The handle is an open loop wide enough for more than one finger. Keep them at the kitchen table, on a desk through the working day, or lined up on an open shelf or in a glass-fronted cabinet, where the glaze is worth seeing between uses.

Each mug is 100% stoneware and goes in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so reheating a coffee that has gone cold or clearing away after a busy morning needs no special handling. Stoneware is dense and holds heat well, which suits a slow first drink of the day. The styling props shown are not included.
